The New England Patriots let Bill Belichick go because they wanted to get better.
Instead, they got worse.
Jerod Mayo has left a lot to be desired in his first year on the job.
He has had some questionable decision-making in his time so far with the team.
He’s also made some questionable statements since he was appointed, and it doesn’t seem like he’s been held accountable for his team’s struggles.
However, it seems like Robert Kraft intends to bring him back.
That’s not great news for Patriots fans, as the word around the league is that Mike Vrabel would gladly take the job.
According to Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda (via Savage Sports), people close to Vrabel believe that he covets the Patriots’ job.
Vrabel was shockingly let go by the Tennessee Titans in the offseason.
He was reportedly very impressive in his interview with the Los Angeles Chargers last season, and they would’ve landed the coach if Jim Harbaugh had backed out, according to some reports.
He wound up signing with the Cleveland Browns as a consultant, but that contract has officially expired.
Now, he’s going to be at the top of multiple team’s wish lists, and he should be a very busy guy as soon as the regular season ends.
The Patriots could have a prime opportunity to bring him back home and rebuild their struggling franchise with a proven winner.
Instead, it seems like they will continue to roll the dice with Mayo, even despite his glaring flaws this season.
