Packers-Bears ticket prices decrease; playoff prices await outcomes of Sunday’s games

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers would likely rather play in Los Angeles for the wild card playoff game, and judging by early secondary market prices, so would Packers fans.

Whether the Packers play in Philadelphia or Los Angeles depends on them defeating the Chicago Bears on Sunday at Lambeau Field and the Dallas Cowboys beating the Washington Commanders in Dallas. If Washington wins, the Packers will travel to Philadelphia.

Secondary market prices for the playoff games have a lot of undecided variables, such as date, time and opponent, so prices are more speculative than usual, but they at least give a sense of what the market is thinking. Right now, it thinks Los Angeles would be about $100 cheaper than Philadelphia.

Kicker Cairo Santos (8) of the Chicago Bears watches as Karl Brooks (94) of the Green Bay Packers blocks a potential game-winning field goal on Nov. 17 at Soldier Field in Chicago.

What is best playoff scenario for the Packers?

The Packers and Packers fan will be pulling for former coach Mike McCarthy, whose Cowboys take on the Commanders in what has been, traditionally, as much of a grudge match as there is in the NFL. If the Packers win and the Commanders lose, the Packers will have the sixth seed and face someone who is not the Eagles, or possibly Minnesota or Detroit. The 11-5 Packers are 0-5 against those teams.

The road to the Super Bowl will be tough enough for the Packers without having to go through every team that beat them this season. If the Packers start the playoffs in Philadelphia, there is a good chance they’d have to defeat all three of them, as tough a road to New Orleans as can be imagined.

How do we calculate secondary market ticket prices?

For our look at Packers’ tickets prices, we average the lowest ticket prices for two seats at 11 secondary-market websites: Event USA, Gametime, Green Bay Ticket Service,  SeatGeek, StubHub, TicketIQ, Ticket King, Ticketmaster, TickPick, TicketSmarter and Vivid Seats.

Note that ticket brokers can add fees on top of the prices listed here, so actual costs might be higher.

The following are secondary market ticket prices as of Sunday and our guesses as to why they are where they are.

Note: Green package ticket holders have six home games this year. Gold package ticket holders, many of whom are from the Milwaukee area and southern Wisconsin, have all three NFC North games at Lambeau Field this season.

Jan. 5, noon, Chicago Bears, Lambeau Field, Network, Fox

  • Face-price range: $132-$175
  • Average lowest-cost seat: $176
  • Average lowest-cost seat Dec. 24: $207
  • Range of lowest-cost seats: $119-$258
  • Bears last week: Seattle Seahawks 6, Bears 3
  • The Bears are 4-12

What is special about this game? The average get-in price for the Bears game is $31 less than last week, a combination of the game being near and the Bears’ pretty awful performance the last four games. Still, it’s a rivalry game, so the price is just above the highest-priced seats in the Lambeau Field bowl.

Theoretically, anything is possible on any given Sunday in the NFL, but it can’t be ignored that the Packers are 11-0 against the Bears under coach Matt LaFleur, and the Bears are in disarray. Chicago played close consecutive games against their NFC North opponents, losing to the three teams by a total of seven points, including 20-19 to the Packers, but they followed that with three losses by 17 or more points, including to Minnesota and Detroit, and a 6-3 loss Thursday to the Seahawks in which their offense was missing in action.

The weather forecast is for 22 degrees with a chance of snow. In other words, pretty typical end-of-season conditions.

The Packers lead the series 108-95-6.

Jan. 11-13, possible playoff game in Philadelphia

  • Average lowest-cost seat: $281
  • Range of lowest-cost seats: $249-$341
  • Eagles last week: Eagles 41, Cowboys 7
  • The Eagles are 13-3

What is special about this game? The Packers lost to the Eagles 34-29 in the regular-season opener in São Paulo, Brazil. The Eagles crushed Dallas 41-7 on Sunday without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was in the concussion protocol. The Eagles have secured the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.

Jan. 11-13, possible playoff game in Los Angeles

  • Average lowest-cost seat: $173
  • Range of lowest-cost seats: $152-$230
  • Rams last week: Rams 13, Cardinals 9
  • The Rams are 10-6

What is special about this game? The Packers defeated a short-handed Rams team 24-19 at SoFi Stadium on Oct. 6. The Rams were 1-3 before that game, and since dropping to 1-4 they have gone 9-2. The Packers are 5-0 against the Rams under coach Matt LaFleur.
