Green Bay Packers Urged To Sign NFL Record-Holder For Jordan Love Amid Christian Watson Injury News

The Green Bay Packers have an excellent young group of pass catchers with whom they have surrounded star quarterback Jordan Love. These tight ends and wide receivers may be young, but they are among the most well-balanced group in the NFL. For the most part, no one of the team looks to overshadow the others as they are always doing what is best for the team.

Love and his group of pass catchers (and thanks in large part to the dynamic play of running back Josh Jacobs) have put up 30+ points in five-consecutive games, the second longest streak in franchise history.

Unfortunately for Love and the Packers, they are heading into their Week 17 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings without one of their most important offensive players.

Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Christian Watson Will Miss the Game vs the Minnesota Vikings

Packers wide receiver Christian Watson injured his knee in Green Bay’s 34-0 win over the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football last week. Fortunately, he avoided any major injury, instead suffering a painful bruise.

Unfortunately, however, he will not be able to play against the Vikings.

Watson is currently sixth on the team in receptions (26), second in receiving yards (620, a career-high), and fifth in receiving touchdowns (two).

The loss of Watson is a tough one for Green Bay against Minnesota as the Vikings have a hard time covering the speedy wide receiver. Now they will be able to play more zone coverage, which could open up doors for Jayden Reed, but takes away many of the favorable man-on-man coverages for Green Bay.

NFL Analyst Urges the Green Bay Packers to Sign Michael Thomas

In a recent article posted by Sporting News, Patrick McAvoy urged the Packers to add some wide receiver depth as the NFL Playoffs approach. One player he named as a potential fit is former New Orleans Saints wide receiver, Michael Thomas:

“[Michael Thomas] was a superstar at one point but hasn’t been the same due to injuries. Thomas is available and could give the Packers another dependable pass-catcher for Love.”

Thomas, a three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, holds the NFL record for receptions in a season, having caught 149 passes in 2019.

However, Thomas has not been signed by any NFL team after catching 39 receptions for 448 yards and one touchdown in 2023.

If he had anything left in the tank, one would think a wide receiver-needy team would have signed him this year already. Furthermore, Watson’s injury is not long-term, so Green Bay should go into the NFL Playoffs with all of their pass catchers available to play.
