The Green Bay Packers have clinched a playoff berth despite one of their veteran playmakers not playing this season. He could be playing for a different team in 2025.
While listing Packers players that shouldn’t be back for the 2025 season, FanSided’s Freddie Boston urged the team to move on from beloved running back AJ Dillon. The Packers signed Josh Jacobs to be the feature back. Emmanuel Wilson, Chris Brooks and MarShawn Lloyd all seem to factor into the equation as well.
“Where does it leave Dillon? The Packers used a rare, team-friendly qualifying offer to bring him back, but the veteran hasn’t played all season due to injury. His contract expires in the spring, and it’s difficult to imagine he will be part of the team’s plans in 2025. Dillon averaged a career-low 3.4 yards per attempt in 2023, and he is unlikely to make the roster ahead of the four running backs playing this season.”
Since being drafted in 2020, Dillon has become a fan favorite for the Packers. He even received the key to Door County in 2021. However, his inability to play this season and the emergence of young talent behind Jacobs could indicate a divorce between the Packers and Dillon..
He has 2,428 career rushing yards, 763 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns despite starting just 11 games in his career. He said earlier this season on Up & Adams that he would love to be back in a Packers uniform, but the cards may not fall that way.
“If that’s the way the cards play out that’d be fantastic,” Dillon told Kay Adams when asked if he would be back with the Packers.
