PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers offense could get a key reinforcement with the return of tight end MyCole Pruitt to the lineup. Pruitt missed the team’s game on Sunday with a knee injury. In an estimated practice report released on Monday, Pruitt was listed with a did not participate tag with the knee injury, but head coach Mike Tomlin said at his press conference that he was optimistic that Pruitt could return.
Pruitt first suffered the knee injury against the Denver Broncos in Week 2. He missed four games initially before returning. The Steelers decided to rest him against the Ravens; however, after a flare-up, he did not practice last week as he rehabbed the injury back to strength.
For the most part, it was not a tight end that ended up taking Pruitt’s snaps. Instead, the team used Ben Skowronek in that role, and he even saw some snaps at fullback and H-back. For his role in that, Skowronek played 20 quality snap that allowed the Steelers run game to get going at times against the top rushing defense in the NFL.
