There isn’t a world where Matt LaFleur is on the hot seat, but entering 2025 the pressure is mounting on the Packers’ head coach to make progress.

As the NFC North continues to improve, and the Packers boldly have added weapons around quarterback Jordan Love over the past two offseasons, thanks to the arrivals of running back Josh Jacobs and rookie wide receivers Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, it may be time for Green Bay to live up to its potential and make a deep playoff run.

Veteran NFL reporter Mike Tanier, of The Too Deep Zone suggests that it might be time for LaFleur to start delivering some big results for the Packers.

“We will learn a lot about LaFleur in 2025,” Tanier wrote recently. “The feel-good vibes from Count Surlypants’ departure have completely worn off. Even with Jaire Alexander now gone, there’s lots of low-key grumbling in Green Bay. The Packers won’t be graded on a curve if they finish in third place and fail to beat any of their top-tier opponents again. LaFleur doesn’t become a bad coach if the Packers suffer a hiccup, but it will become harder to cherry-pick stats to make him look like a great one.”

LaFleur enters the 2025 season with a .670 winning percentage but a 3-5 record in the postseason, which is a true definer of success.

Given the pieces that the Packers have in place, it should be a given that Love and the offense make strides and the defense continues to build on the momentum of a strong 2024 season in coordinator Jeff Hafley’s second season, this fall.

However, as the NFC North opens up the 2025 season markedly improved, finishing third in the division might not even ensure a postseason appearance, which could turn the heat up even higher on LaFleur beyond the upcoming season.
