.Michael Kopech only lasted seven innings before landing right back on the 15-day injured list with a new issue.
Kopech started the season on the IL dealing with a right shoulder impingement. He completed a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City then returned from the 60-day IL on June 7.
In his eight appearances in 2025, Kopech has not allowed a run and only gave up three hits.
The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Kopech back on the IL with right knee inflammation on July 1. Scans of his knee showed inflammation and Kopech received a cortisone injection.
The right-handed relief pitcher did not seem too concerned about the severity of the injury. Before Tuesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox – his former team – he said the injury feels more like discomfort than pain but he is unsure what caused the issue, per the Los Angeles Times.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts added that the injury is short-term but there is no specific timeline for when Kopech will be healthy to return.
Los Angeles acquired Kopech at the trade deadline last season in a three-team deal involving the White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. In addition to Kopech, the Dodgers received utility man Tommy Edman and right-handed pitcher Oliver Gonzalez from the Cardinals.
Kopech and Edman emerged as major pieces of the Dodgers roster during the postseason and both won their first World Series last season.
Kopech recorded a 3.00 ERA through nine innings and allowed three runs and five hits in 10 appearances. The Dodgers relied heavily on relievers like Kopech in the bullpen while their rotation struggled with several injuries.
Edman was one of Los Angeles’ best hitters during the postseason and was named the NL Championship Series Most Valuable Player. This season, he finished as the runner-up for the second base starting spot on the NL All-Star team.
The Dodgers landed two impactful additions to their roster last trade deadline and could look to find similar talent at this season’s trade deadline.
