Edouard Julien has been on a tear lately with the St. Paul Saints.

It seemed Julien would be the Twins’ everyday second baseman for the foreseeable future following his rookie campaign in 2023, where he posted 2.6 bWAR with an .839 OPS. He had a great postseason that year as well, going 5-for-17 with one home run and five walks.
However, Julien was demoted to Triple-A twice in 2024, failing to maintain the level of performance he had achieved the previous year.
And then, as stated earlier, he found himself back in a Saints uniform regularly in 2025.
DaShawn Keirsey Jr. and Jonah Bride are on the Twins’ 26-man roster despite both of them struggling to produce offensively. Julien has a much higher chance of helping the Twins’ offense score runs than those two players, although Keirsey and Bride have more defensive value. Still, if Julien were to unlock the 2023 version of himself, he would be one of Minnesota’s best players.
Many variables hindering Julien’s chances of a promotion
Julien’s recent hot streak deserves praise and a promotion.
What’s likely keeping him from being on the Twins is his lack of offensive production at the major league level the past two seasons, in addition to the Twins wanting Brooks Lee and Willi Castro to play regularly, with both playing second base much of the time.
Royce Lewis will be back soon, further hindering Julien’s odds of being recalled, and Luke Keaschall will be eligible to return from the IL soon as well.
Additionally, DH has mostly been locked down by Trevor Larnach. Julien isn’t a great defender (-5 outs above average in MLB this season), either, which doesn’t help his case.
The Twins would likely be better with Julien on the team instead of Bride or Keirsey, but he would have a difficult time getting consistent at-bats.
The Twins might want to keep Julien in Triple-A and only recall him if a situation arises where he would start regularly.
But at the end of the day, Minnesota is only 2 ½ games back of the third American League Wild Card spot and could benefit from having Julien on the team, even if he only starts a couple of games a week.
