Report: Patriots sign veteran tackle coming off UFL championship

The Patriots are adding more depth to their offensive line – and bringing back a familiar face.

According to a source, the Patriots are signing veteran tackle Yasir Durant to a 1-year contract. Durant, 28, is coming off a successful stint in the United Football League where he won a championship with the DC Defenders. He also earned a spot on the All-UFL team after starting at left tackle.

Now, Durant is coming back to New England. In 2021, Bill Belichick traded a seventh-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for Durant at the end of training camp. In 2020, Durant played in 11 games, making one start for the Chiefs.

In 2021, he played seven games for the Patriots, making one start. Durant played 78 snaps at right tackle, 13 at right guard, and four at tackle-eligible tight end for the Patriots.

He gave up three sacks, according to Pro Football Focus. In 2022, Durant was cut by the Patriots at the end of training camp and signed with the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad.

He played in one game for the Saints that season.

He was briefly in Denver in 2023 and after being waived, Durant signed with the DC Defenders in 2024. Last season, Durant started every game at left tackle and was reportedly the league’s best offensive lineman.

Now, he’ll come back to New England as the Patriots try to revamp their offensive line. A roster spot opened up this month after veteran guard Wes Schweitzer retired before minicamp.

The Patriots signed veteran right tackle Morgan Moses and drafted left tackle Will Campbell with the No. 4 overall pick in April.

Durant will come to Foxborough, where he’ll compete for one of the top backup spots along with Caedan Wallace, Vederian Lowe, Demontrey Jacobs, and Marcus Bryant. Durant will also provide depth at guard.
