Patriots Defender Predicted to Get New Contract Next

Report: Patriots to place CB Marcus Jones on IR due to torn labrum

The New England Patriots have a loaded secondary group, with a mix of young and veteran players. One more unheralded cornerback is Marcus Jones, who does just about anything and everything the team asks him to do, and he could be getting a new contract soon.

Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton named Jones as the top player on the Patriots due for a new contract, in part because of his versatility.

“He’s the definition of an NFL Swiss Army knife,” Moton said.

During his time with the Patriots, Jones has played all over the defensive secondary, taken snaps at wide receiver, and returned both kicks and punts at various points. His main position, however, is slot corner and outside corner when needed.

The 26-year-old is entering his fourth season as a third-round pick from the University of Houston. He racked up 58 tackles, 10 passes defensed, one forced fumble, and one interception last season.
