UPDATE: Insider Reveals New Clues About Trevon Diggs’ Uncertain Future with Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys, Trevon Diggs

The Dallas Cowboys made cornerback Trevon Diggs one of the highest-paid NFL players in 2023. Just a few years later, the two-time Pro Bowl selection faces an uncertain future with the club.

In a mailbag for The Athletic, Cowboys’ reporter Saad Yousuf wrote that there’s a realistic chance the 2025 season could be Diggs’ last in Dallas.

“Unless there’s a huge bounce back from Diggs in 2025, it’s easy to see why the injuries and regression over the past two years would lead the Cowboys to want to get out of that contract. Diggs is a boom-or-bust type of player to begin with, but since his monster year in 2021, there’s been a lot more bust than boom. Couple that with Bland being in the final year of his rookie deal and will be due a sizable extension, it’s hard to imagine a realistic scenario in which this isn’t Diggs’ final year in Dallas.”

Trevon Diggs stats (2024): 2 interceptions, 85.3 QB rating allowed in 11 games

Diggs, who turns 27 in September, is currently working his way back from a second knee surgery that he underwent this offseason.

He’s in jeopardy of starting the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP), which would keep him out through September. In a more favorable scenario, he might not be cleared to play in Week 1.

He’s played in just 13 games over the last two seasons, netting 3 total interceptions after his 11-interception season in 2021. Durability has become a major concern for the Cowboys’ organization, especially since Diggs was a risk-reward cover corner when healthy.

Trevon Diggs contract (Spotrac): $12.588 million cap hit (2025), $18.441 million cap hit (2026), $23.441 million cap hit (2027)

If Diggs can’t return to that Pro Bowl form, he’ll be one of the likeliest NFL cap casualties in 2026.

According to Spotrac, the Cowboys would free up $12.558 million in cap space by releasing Diggs next spring. The savings would clear the way for the team to sign corner DaRon Bland to a new deal.
