Dave Roberts and former Dodgers first base coach Clayton McCullough will reunite in Atlanta, with the now Marlins manager added to the National League All-Star coaching staff. Braves manager Brian Snitker will also be a part of Roberts’ staff, MLB announced on Tuesday.
The manager of the team in the host city joining the coaching staff is an All-Star Game tradition, as Roberts was on Snitker’s NL coaching staff at Dodger Stadium in 2022. This year’s game will be held at Truist Park in Atlanta on Tuesday, July 15.
McCullough was in the Dodgers organization for 10 years, including 2021-24 as first base coach, before getting hired as Marlins manager in December. He previously served as first base coach on Roberts’ staff during the 2021 All-Star Game.
This is Roberts’ fourth time managing the All-Star Game, one of the perks from winning the pennant the previous season. Yankees manager Aaron Boone is the American League All-Star manager this season, and on Tuesday added Guardians manager Stephen Vogt and Hall of Famer Joe Torre to his staff.
In addition to the Dodgers coaching staff that has accompanied Roberts to his previous three All-Star managerial stints, here are who he’s added to his staff in previous midsummer classics:
2018: Bud Black, Roberts’ mentor in San Diego; and Dave Martinez, manager of the Nationals with the game in Denver.
2019: Snitker
2021: Black, then-Rockies manager with the game in Denver; and former Dodgers star Reggie Smith. Roberts previously reached out to another former first base coach, George Lombard, but was rebuffed because the Tigers bench coach Lombard was on an American League team.
