Jake Ferguson’s 2024 Cowboys Season Called ‘Fluke’ By Coach

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson (87) falls over Cleveland Browns linebacker Jordan Hicks (58)Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is expecting a big year from Jake Ferguson.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson was supposed to take the leap from good tight end to top NFL weapon in 2024.

However, things in the NFL rarely go to plan, and for the “big biscuit,” he dealt with a knee injury and then a nasty concussion that saw him in and out of the lineup.

Additionally, Dak Prescott was out for the season after Week 9, so Ferguson didn’t have “his” guy throwing him the ball, which led to a poor season with just 494 yards and no touchdowns – yuck.

Was this a precursor to what we can expect from now on?

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer doesn’t think so.

“I think last year’s a fluke,” Schottenheimer said. “He definitely dealt with some stuff that was hard for him. Jake’s always motivated, is one of those tone setters, where he just plays the right way. He’s one of those guys that’s able to practice in this format and be competitive but not combative, the look in his eye, the way his body looks and the way he’s moving has been noticeably different in a good way. He’s really motivated he’s really excited, Fergie’s doing great.”

So the revenge tour is off to a good start for Ferguson – the man they call the “Big Biscuit” – who has already connected with Dak Prescott on their trusted seam route play for a 22-yard touchdown at minicamp.

Things are moving in the right direction, and in truth, they have to do with Ferguson in a contract year, so making the most of his chances will go a long way to getting a second contract with the Cowboys.

Returning to his Pro Bowl form from 2023 would be just what’s required, not what transpired last season.

Schottenheimer called Jake’s down season a fluke; we’ll see if he’s right.
