PHILADELPHIA – Brandon Marsh felt pain immediately after sliding into the back of second base on a stolen base attempt in the second inning. Assistant athletic trainer Christian Bermudez and Rob Thomson ran out of the dugout as soon as the Phillies made the decision to challenge the out call at second base. Bermudez was tending to Marsh’s left arm. The Phillies won the challenge, but Marsh was the bigger concern.
Marsh stayed in the game for three more innings, doubling the opposite way on a pitch way off the plate. He was replaced by Johan Rojas in the top of the sixth.
The Phillies later announced that Marsh was removed from the game due to left elbow soreness. Thomson said after the game that Marsh “hyper extended” his elbow on the hard tag. He is considered day-to-day.
It’s a tough break for Marsh, who looks like he is heating up at the plate. Marsh walked off the Cubs in the 11th inning on Monday, and went 2-for-2 in his only two at-bats in Tuesday’s game. He has recorded a hit in three straight games for the first time this season.
The Phillies lost the second of three games against the Cubs, 8-4.
