Troy Aikman Predicts Who Will Be Cowboys Head Coach in 2025 - Athlon Sports

Following the Dallas Cowboys loss on Monday night, owner Jerry Jones gave an interesting response to a question about the future of current head coach Mike McCarthy.

Jones has been adamant that he won’t move on from McCarthy during the season.

After Monday night’s 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals which dropped Dallas to 5-8 on the season, that appears to remain true.

“Well, let me just say this quickly, and Mike is an outstanding coach. He has an outstanding record. He’s got great experience,” Jones said of McCarthy. “A lot of what he’s about, some of the benefits that we’re having out there, we’re gaining from the type coach that he is.”

“And so there’s an old adage, when you start thinking about any coaches, you better give it a good look, because he’s one of the most outstanding. So again, I’ve spoken to that about any consideration I’m having, but this was a hard one for him tonight. I’m sure.”

With the Cowboys struggling and McCarthy in the final year of his contract, it’s fair to wonder if he’ll be replaced.

Former Cowboys quarterback and current ESPN color analyst Troy Aikman isn’t sure that’s the best decision.

He pointed to Bill Belichick as the only other possible candidate with the “resume” McCarthy boasts and ultimately predicted he’ll be back next season. ”

Short of Bill Belichick, I don’t know who you’re going to bring in that has a better resume. … I just feel that for a team that I really do not think is that far away,” he said, via Cowboys reporter Jon Machota.

“I like the way this team is playing right now, even without their franchise quarterback.

I sense that it’s a team that really believes in Mike McCarthy. I feel the locker room wants him back. I think he’s a really good football coach.

I believe Jerry Jones thinks he’s a really good football coach, too. … As we stand and talk right now, I expect Mike McCarthy to be back in 2025.”

McCarthy and company are headed on the road this weekend for a battle against the Carolina Panthers, who enter the game as the favorite for the first time in two years.
