The Green Bay Packers now have 13 wide receivers on their 90-man roster as they announced the signing of undrafted rookie Sam Brown.

The new signing was made after the team released defensive end Jeremiah Martin who was part of the practice squad and was absent in the latest organized team activities.
Brown played four seasons in college starting with the West Virginia Mountaineers (2020 to 2021) where he recorded ten receptions for 108 yards.
He then transferred to the Houston Cougars in the 2022 season and established himself as the team’s best wide receiver. He finished with 62 receptions for 815 yards and three touchdowns, earning himself a spot at the Big 12 Conference honorable mention.
The best part about his Houston stint was that he crossed paths there with Packers’ 23rd pick Matthew Golden. He was even better than the highly-touted rookie records-wise.

Brown was the University of Houston’s leading receiver in 2023.

The record was not enough though as he decided to move again and signed with Miami Hurricanes for the 2024 season.
More about Green Bay Packers’ new WR
Brown had a considerably good college career because of his athleticism but he still went undrafted. His determination does not waver and even has big goals for himself.
“I’m going to be ready to play whenever my opportunity arrives. I want to be a household name. I want to carve that out for myself,” he said before the draft.
What can he offer now that he has a team? Dane Brugler of The Athletic thought he is an explosive WR but parts of his game still need polishing.

“Brown has the speed and stride manipulation to be a field-stretching weapon and the electric potential to force missed tackles in open space,” Brugler wrote before the draft weekend.
“He has adequate tracking skills, although his play strength mid-route and at the catch point is a concern (more drops than touchdown catches in college). Overall, Brown doesn’t play with confidence running the full route tree, but he is straight-line explosive with the acceleration to separate vertically or horizontally.”
It is highly unlikely that Brown will find a niche in the Packers squad as the wide receiver position will be one of the tightest in the team.
The team currently has three rookie wide receivers in the squad including him, Golden, and third round pick Savion Williams. There’s also veterans Christian Watson, Romeo Douns, and Jayden Reed, all of whom entering their contract year.
