BREAKING: 5 Green Bay Packers Players Notably Absent for Start of OTA’s

The Green Bay Packers have started the voluntary portion of their organized team activities (OTA’s) ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

While these practices are not mandatory, many veterans join the rookies and 53-man roster hopefuls to begin preparations for the upcoming year.

Some, such as wide receiver Christian Watson, are present even though their rehab from injuries will not allow them to take the field at the start of the season.

Indeed, most of Green Bay’s roster of players were/are present this week even though they do not have to be.

However, a couple of them who normally do attend these practices are absent because of ongoing contract negotiations.

Jaire Alexander and Elgton Jenkins Highlight Green Bay Packers Players Who Are Absent from OTA’s

Filling in for injured center Josh Myers, Green Bay Packers guard Elgton Jenkins (74) provides pass protection during the second quarter of their game against Detroit Lions Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Per multiple reporters who were present at OTA’s on Wednesday, the following players were not seen in attendance:

    • Jaire Alexander
    • Elgton Jenkins
    • Brandon McManus
    • John Williams
  • Tyron Herring

A recent report stated that Alexander, whom many thought was going to be traded or released this offseason, wants to remain in Green Bay but has not yet signed the Packers’ contract restructure. To be clear, the team can still release him if he does not agree to a restructure. However, this is the first concrete news fans have received that the two-time Pro Bowler wants to remain a Packer.

Elgton Jenkins is moving from left guard, where he made two Pro Bowls, to center this season. And while he is more than willing to make the switch (he played center in college), he also wants some contractual security as centers do not make as much money as guards in the NFL.

Brandon McManus just signed a three-year contract with Green Bay this offseason, so his absence can be explained away by the fact that he simply does not need to be there right now.

John Williams, an offensive lineman, was a seventh round pick by the Packers this year. The reason for his absence is not known to the public.

Tyron Herring is an undrafted free agent cornerback who signed with Green Bay after the 2025 NFL Draft. The reason for his absence is not yet known either.
