Philadelphia Phillies fans are holding their breath when it comes to their star first baseman.
Bryce Harper left Tuesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves in the first inning after he was hit on his surgically repaired right elbow by Braves ace Spencer Strider.
Harper immediately left the batter’s box clutching his elbow before manager Rob Thomson and a team trainer came out of the dugout. The three spoke briefly before Harper walked to the dugout and exited the game. He was replaced by Edmundo Sosa.
The Phillies announced x-rays were negative and Harper is dealing with an elbow contusion.
Harper underwent Tommy John on his right elbow in 2022 after the World Series and missed the first month of 2023. The first baseman also dealt with elbow irritation last season.
Entering Tuesday’s game against Atlanta, Harper was batting .267 with eight home runs and 33 RBI.
