FRISCO – To his credit, Dallas Cowboys-lovin’ Dez Bryant is just trying to help. And heck, he might be right.
So while Nick Chubb pretty obviously doesn’t fit into Dallas’ plans at this time, as team sources have told CowboysCountry.com …
The Dez’ version of the vision is pretty gripping.
“If the Cowboys get (Chubb) and combine him with (Jaydon) Blue. the Cowboys offense will be the most dangerous in the NFL,” Bryant wrote on X.
This much is true: The Cowboys’ backfield has undergone a complete makeover since the end of the 2024 regular season. At that point, it was essentially a one-man show run by Rico Dowdle. Now, two veterans and two rookies will compete for reps this summer.
Dallas let Dowdle walk in free agency while signing both Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams in that time. The Cowboys then added Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah on Day 3 of the NFL Draft.
But as it relates to Chubb? Dallas chose Sanders and Williams over him. Right or wrong.
Period.
The always-passionate Bryant thinks they are wrong.
Veteran free agent Chubb remains unsigned following the two biggest talent acquisition periods of the NFL offseason. But Chubb has been in the gym, posting some admittedly impressive footage of himself going through workouts.
Injuries have plagued the past two seasons for Chubb, who lost nearly all of his 2023 campaign after a gruesome leg injury. Once positioned to be the Browns’ bell cow back, it appears they have moved on with two running back draft selections of their own.
The viability of the Cowboys backfield is questionable having no evidence of how these acquisitions will translate onto the field.
But if they believe in this foursome … they must not believe they have a spot for Chubb.
But Dez is standing by his beliefs.
“I really can’t find a con if that (signing) happens,” Bryant writes. “Think about it. Blue gets to learn from a dynamic back who plays the game the right way. That’s how you mold a young promising running back.”
