Caring for a disabled pet is a challenge not every owner is willing to take on. Sadly, this often leads to paralyzed dogs being abandoned, just like Lunetta—a beautiful little dog left tied to a railing on the streets of Salta, Argentina.
A staff member at a nearby dog care facility noticed Lunetta and was horrified by her condition. Her back legs were strapped to a rusted wheelchair, and she lay helplessly on the pavement with no food or water.
Next to her was a bag of diapers and a note detailing her name, age, and the heartbreaking explanation that her owners could no longer care for her.
Rescue group Luba Salta was contacted immediately, and two volunteers rushed to check on Lunetta’s health and bring her to safety.
She was placed in a foster home, and her story was shared on Facebook in hopes of finding a family willing to care for a paralyzed dog.

Soon, an American family reached out, offering to adopt her. It seemed like a dream come true, but unfortunately, they were unprepared for the level of care she required. Neglect led to Lunetta developing a severe staph infection, and her health rapidly declined.
Just when her future seemed uncertain again, another American family stepped in and gave Lunetta the love and medical attention she needed. With proper care, she made an incredible recovery and finally got to experience the joy of a real home.
Her new life was full of happiness—she had a canine sister to play with, a specially designed wheelchair that gave her freedom to move, and endless adventures.
She ran through parks, played in the snow, and even enjoyed Christmas celebrations with her family.
But time eventually caught up with her. A month after celebrating her 11th birthday, Lunetta fell ill and was rushed to the intensive care unit at the University Medical Hospital.
Despite putting up a brave fight, she passed away surrounded by those who loved her.
Her adoptive mother shared a heartfelt message on Facebook: “I will never forget her and how much she meant to me. She changed my life forever. I loved her so much.”
Though Lunetta’s journey ended, her last year was filled with love, joy, and the care she had always deserved. Her story is a reminder that every dog, no matter their condition, deserves a chance at happiness.
Rest in peace, sweet Lunetta. If her story touched your heart, share it with your friends and family in her honor.
