WHAT HAPPENED? Former Broncos Standout Predicted to Be Cut by Cowboys (Rumors)

The Denver Broncos allowed Javonte Williams to walk in free agency, a decision that some believed might have been the wrong one.

Williams has been a decent player throughout his career, and the Broncos’ running back room wasn’t necessarily in the best spot in the early stages of the offseason.

After posting just 513 yards and four touchdowns last year, however, moving on from him seemed to be the right decision.

There have been times when Williams has been very good, evident by his rookie season, when he posted 903 yards after being selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft, but for the most part, he’s been rather average.

That’s why Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recently predicted that he could be cut by the Dallas Cowboys, who he signed with during the offseason.

“Cowboys signed running back Javonte Williams to a one-year, $3 million deal this offseason but could easily move on if he doesn’t outperform Miles Sanders, Deuce Vaughn and/or rookies Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah in training camp,” Knox wrote. “Cutting Williams, who averaged just 3.7 yards per carry with the Broncos last season, would save Dallas $2 million in cap space.”

Williams is only on a one-year, $3 million deal with the Cowboys, with one million of that being a signing bonus.

With Dallas not exactly having a great running back room, despite how crowded it is, it might be the better plan to keep him around.

If Williams doesn’t have a good training camp, however, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Cowboys move on.
