The crowd went insane last night as former Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden was announced as the first-round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers, the host team for the 2025 NFL Draft. Then, Golden made it even better.

His celebration with the Packer fans in attendance and excitement over the home crowd was infectious, and then, he only had to take a few strides to find his new home: Lambeau Field.

Lambeau, one of the most historic (if not the most historic) stadiums in the league, has been home to the Packers since 1957, making it the first-ever stadium built specifically for an NFL team. Now, the former Texas Longhorn wideout gets to call Lambeau home.

While taking his first steps around his new digs, the excitement and joy were apparent on Golden’s face as he tried to take it all on. “It all” being a gargantuan 81,441-capacity stadium.

After showing his family around the stadium, meeting with his new head coach Matt LaFleur, and basking in all of the glory, Golden had a special message for Packer Nation, which also happens to comprise the ownership group of the franchise.

“I’m home baby!” Golden wrote on X. “Let’s work!”

Golden broke a really, really, really long streak for the Packers

When Golden was announced as Green Bay’s first-round pick on Thursday night, he broke a 23-year-long streak in which the Packers had not picked a receiver in the first round of the NFL Draft.

In fact, he became just the second wideout whom Green Bay had drafted in the first round over the last 43 years, last picking Javon Walker in 2002 after not selecting a wideout in the first round since 1988.

Not only did the crowd go crazy for the promising young talent that Golden brings to Green Bay, but they were also celebrating the sweet, sweet relief of their favorite franchise finally drafting a wide receiver in the first round.
