Brewers manage just five hits and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Offense silent again as Brewers shut out by Twins - Yahoo Sports

After a quick return of the offense on Wednesday afternoon, it’s gone silent again just two days later. The Brewers were shut out for the fifth time in 14 games in May. This time, it came in the form of a 3-0 loss to the Twins, who won their 12th straight game.

It didn’t help that the Brewers fell behind from the start. Chad Patrick allowed three of the first four Twins batters to reach base: he hit Trevor Larnach with a pitch before allowing singles to Ryan Jeffers and Ty France. That put the Brewers behind 1-0. A third single in the inning, this time from Kody Clemens, extended that deficit to 2-0.

Meanwhile, Brice Turang tried to get the Brewers one of those runs back right away. After a leadoff single, he stole second base, and then third as Rhys Hoskins drew a walk. He just needed someone to drive him in with two outs, but Sal Frelick flew out to end the first.

The Twins responded with three more singles to load the bases in the second. The Brewers erased two with a double play from Caleb Durbin to Hoskins, but the Twins got a run anyway.

Patrick was shaky through the first two innings, but settled down after that. He only allowed two more singles and a walk through the rest of his start. He finished his day after six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, a walk, and a hit batter.

Almost all of what he allowed came in the first two innings. Despite allowing the three runs, he remained dependable with a quality start. He also has not allowed more than three runs in a start this season.

Unfortunately, Joe Ryan of the Twins was dialed in. He also pitched six innings and struck out nine.

He struck out six batters in a row between the second and third innings. Christian Yelich broke that streak by taking a pitch to lead off the fourth inning and got into scoring position from a Hoskins groundout.

He was left stranded there, though. William Contreras gave them another chance to score with a one-out double in the sixth. He got to third on a Yelich groundout but was stranded there.

Another scoring opportunity came up in the seventh with Joe Ryan out of the game and Brock Stewart entering in relief. The Brewers had a chance to tie the game off of him

. Frelick led off the inning with a single and Jake Bauers singled to put runners at first and second. Unfortunately, Durbin struck out and so did pinch-hitter Isaac Collins. That was the Brewers’ last scoring chance in the game.

Tyler Alexander pitched two scoreless innings, and Joel Payams had a scoreless ninth to keep the Brewers in striking distance. The offense just couldn’t put anything together, though.

It’s a brutal box score for the offense. Contreras was the lone Brewer to record two hits; meanwhile, the offense combined to strike out sixteen times.

Every player with an at-bat (except Frelick) struck out at least once. Chourio was the worst offender with four strikeouts.

They also went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base. The end result is being shut out for the third time in four games and fifth time in the month of May.

It’s back to work tomorrow as the Brewers offense needs to get going again. They will face Pablo López, while the Brewers bring back Myers to make the start.

First pitch is set for 6:15 p.m., and it will be available to watch on FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin and listen to on the Brewers Radio Network. There will also be a free MLB.TV broadcast (out-of-market).
