Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers have put together a roster that should be able to compete in the NFC once again during the 2025 NFL season.
However, there are still some holes that could be filled.
Most notably, the Packers could use another high-impact pass rusher.
They opted not to address the position early in NFL free agency, but they did draft both Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver in the 2025 NFL Draft. Both of those rookies have talent, but they may not be immediate impact players.
Could Green Bay consider diving back into the market late in free agency to sign a pass rusher? One intriguing option was just made available.
Green Bay Packers Urged to Consider Huge Move for Former No. 1 Overall Pick
On Thursday, the Carolina Panthers opted to release former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney. Might the Packers be a potential landing spot for him ahead of the 2025 season?
Clowney would be a very intriguing addition. One analyst believes that the team should consider the option.
Zach Kruse of Packers Wire has urged Green Bay to consider looking into the idea of signing Clowney.
“It’s certainly worth exploring. At the right price, Clowney would provide a reliable and experienced player to the Packers’ mostly young and still developing defensive end room,” Kruse wrote. “He wouldn’t need to be a full-time player but could still impact games as a run defender and pass rusher, given his history. The Packers are typically a heavy rotation defense on the edge, and Clowney would almost certainly be a better player over 400-500 snaps than the options behind the Packers’ expected starters at defensive end.”

Throughout his NFL career, Clowney has played in 140 games.
He has racked up 409 total tackles to go along with 58 sacks, 15 forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, an interception, a defensive touchdown, and 32 defended passes.
While the team may not end up signing Clowney, he’s well worth considering. He would be a nice addition at a position that Green Bay could use more help.
