Alec Bohm has had an eventful career with the Philadelphia Phillies. The All-Star third baseman had an incredible 2024 season before suffering a hand injury and then going cold in the final month of the season and into the playoffs.
Bohm was the subject of trade rumors during the offseason and struggled through the first few weeks of the 2025 season. Now, the 28-year-old has started to turn things around at the plate.
Alec Bohm scratches his name off ‘exclusive’ list with his first home run of the season
On Tuesday, the Phillies began a three-game road series against the Tampa Bay Rays, and Bohm helped give his team an early lead. After Kyle Schwarber hit his major league-tying 12th home run to lead off the second inning, Bohm joined the party four batters later.
With two outs and a runner on third, Bohm hit a two-run 342-foot missile to right field for his first home run of the season. Not only was it his first home run this season, but it was Bohm’s first home run since Sept. 20.

Entering the series opener against the Rays, Bohm was one of five qualified hitters yet to hit a home run this year, along with the Pirates’ Tommy Pham, the Cubs’ Nico Hoerner, the Marlins’ Xavier Edwards and the Brewers Joey Ortiz. He can now scratch his name off that list and hopefully get in a groove moving forward.
Bohm was far from the player he’s capable of being to start the season. His batting average was as low as .150, and he was moved toward the bottom of the lineup.
Since April 14, Bohm is hitting .310 with six extra-base hits and nine RBIs, including his two-run home run against the Rays. It’s been an impressive and much-needed turnaround for him and the Phillies.
Although not known for hitting home runs, Bohm is known for finding gaps and putting the ball in play. He had the second-most doubles (44) in the National League a season ago and was among the league leaders with 97 RBI.
Bohm’s numbers are still below average, slashing .237/.273/.313 with a .586 OPS, but his recent success could be a sign of good things to come.
