Twins reinstate Royce Lewis, Willi Castro from injured list; demote Edouard Julien and Mickey Gasper to Triple-A St. Paul
The Twins have reinstated third baseman Royce Lewis and utility player Willi Castro from the injured list, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune’s Bobby Nightengale. Minnesota demoted infielders Edouard Julien and Mickey Gasper to Triple-A St. Paul as a corresponding move.

Lewis, who has missed all of the Twins’ games this season after suffering a left hamstring strain while running out a ground ball on March 16, went 4-for-23 with a double in his rehab assignment for the Saints.
Castro, who has a .227/.292/.364 slash line with six doubles and a home run this season, landed on the Injured List with a right oblique strain on April 24. Hopefully for Minnesota, he will return to the version of himself that made the American League All-Star team last year.
Many may be surprised to learn that Kody Clemens is still on the Twins’ major league roster following Lewis and Castro’s reinstatement from the Injured List, but when considering the two demoted players’ stats, it makes a lot of sense.
Julien’s demotion came after he hit a mere .198/.288/.319 with -0.4 bWAR and two home runs this year. With Lewis and Castro back, Julien isn’t hitting well enough to start regularly, and the Twins would prefer he gets regular at-bats in Triple-A instead of using him as a bench bat in the big leagues.
Gasper’s demotion to Triple-A marked his second this season. He went 4-for-16 with a double and four runs scored across seven games in his most recent stint with the Twins. Gasper, who has a career .393 on-base percentage across seven minor league seasons, had just two hits and four walks in 22 plate appearances before his first time getting sent down to the Saints.
Twins set to face Baltimore Orioles
The Twins are scheduled to begin a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles at 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday at Target Field. The probable starting pitchers for Game 1 are Twins righty Pablo López and Orioles lefty Cade Povich.
