REVEALS: 3 Twins players you may have forgotten were on the 2024 Opening Day roster

Miami Marlins v Minnesota Twins

While players like Max Kepler, Alex Kirloff and Carlos Santana aren’t out of mind quite yet for most Twins fans, several individuals from Minnesota’s 2024 opening day roster easily could have been forgotten.

Here are 3 Twins players you may have forgotten were on the 2024 Opening Day roster

Outfielder Manuel Margot

The Twins acquired Margot as a fourth outfielder from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Feb. 26, 2024. Margot, who was sent to the Dodgers from Tampa Bay on Dec. 16, 2023, as part of the Tyler Glasnow trade, posted a .238/.289/.337 (75 OPS+) slash line in 343 plate appearances in his lone season as a Twin. He also set an MLB record with 35 straight hitless plate appearances as a pinch-hitter last year.

Now with the Detroit Tigers, Margot is on a rehab assignment after he landed on the injured list with a left patellar tendon strain on April 8 and is expected to return early this month. He has six hits, all singles, in 19 at-bats this season for the Tigers.

Right-handed relief pitcher Jay Jackson

The Twins signed Jackson, then 36, to pitch regularly out of the bullpen in the 2023-24 offseason. He posted a 7.52 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP with 29 strikeouts in 26 ⅓ innings for Minnesota with a couple of trips to St. Paul before eventually being released by the Saints on July 26.

FanSided’s Robert Murray reported Jackson, who has a career 4.43 ERA with 136 strikeouts in 113 ⅔ innings at the major league level, retired from baseball after a 17-year professional career on March 29.

Veteran MLB reliever Jay Jackson is retiring after 17 seasons in baseball. He’d love to work for a team and is also open to a career in broadcasting, his agent Nello Gamberdino said.

Right-handed relief pitcher Daniel Duarte

Duarte, who was with the Cincinnati Reds 2022-23, is easily the most forgettable player from the Twins’ 2024 opening day roster, considering he only pitched in two games that season.  He allowed one run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in four innings before undergoing season-ending elbow surgery.

The Twins re-signed Duarte to a minor league contract this past offseason, and he is currently on the injured list with the St. Paul Saints.
