The time around the NFL Draft isn’t just when teams add players. After the draft, teams re-evaluate their rosters, and sometimes the additions can be accompanied by subtractions.
That happened with New England on Monday, when the Patriots parted ways with six players. Among the waived players were offensive lineman Jake Andrews and defensive tackle Marcus Harris.
A 2017 All-State selection at Stanhope Elmore High School in Millbrook, Andrews earned All-Sun Belt recognition in 2022 with Troy, where he played center and guard in five seasons with the Trojans.
Harris played at Park Crossing High School in Montgomery before arriving at Auburn in 2021, with two seasons at Kansas in between. Harris played three seasons for the Tigers.
A fourth-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, Andrews played in 16 games, with one start, as a rookie, when he had 70 offensive snaps and 50 special-teams plays.
Andrews missed the 2024 season. He sustained a meniscus injury and went on season-ending injured reserve on Aug. 5.
The Houston Texans selected Harris in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Harris didn’t make the regular-season roster, but he stayed with Houston on its practice squad until being released on Oct. 9.
Two days later, Harris joined New England’s practice squad and stayed there the remainder of the season. He re-signed with the Patriots for 2025 on Jan. 6.
In the 2025 NFL Draft, the Patriots picks included Georgia center Jared Wilson in the third round and Florida State defensive tackle Joshua Farmer in the fourth round.
