Son of MLB legend gets cut by Phillies

The son of a legendary MLB pitcher has seen his tenure with the Philadelphia Phillies likely come to an end.

Kody Clemens, the son of seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens, was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Wednesday. The move was made to clear a roster spot for utility man Weston Wilson, who has been activated from the 10-day injured list after missing the start of the year with an oblique injury.

The 28-year-old Clemens has played in 97 total MLB games for the Phillies over the past three seasons. He batted .220 with 9 home runs and 31 RBI during that span.

Clemens appeared mostly as a pinch-hitter this season and did not have a hit in six plate appearances.

The Phillies acquired Clemens in a trade with the Detroit Tigers ahead of the 2023 season. Clemens has hit .197 in the majors during his career.

Kody is one of four of Roger’s sons along with his brothers Koby, Kory and Kacy. Koby, who is 38, also played professionally in the minor leagues and spent some time as a coach.

One of the highlights of Kody’s professional career came in 2022, when he made an appearance as a pitcher and struck out Shohei Ohtani on a ridiculously slow floating pitch.
