Who Would Be Cowboys’ ‘Ideal’ Draft Selection?

Wildcats' national player of the week Tetairoa McMillan flexes promise

We are less than a week away from the NFL Draft, which means everyone is voicing opinions on who should be taken where, and for the Dallas Cowboys, most are coming to one conclusion: receiver.

With a dire need to improve Dak Prescott’s weaponry for Brian Schottenheimer’s first year as head coach/play-caller, CeeDee Lamb looms as the only genuine threat to the defense.

Jalen Tolbert made strides, but the offense might be on shaky ground if he is Dallas’ No. 2. This has led most to pick a receiver at No. 12 to help Lamb.

But who? Tetairoa McMillan, Emeka Egbuka, Luther Burden III, and Matthew Golden are all considered candidates.

For Bleacher Report, in naming an “ideal” pick for each team, the publication lands on McMillan for the Cowboys.

Dallas needs a stronger presence at the No. 2 wide receiver spot,” Bleacher Report writes. “Jalen Tolbert made strides in his third season last year, but he’s going into a contract term. Tetairoa McMillan could be the big-play complementary receiver to CeeDee Lamb. At 6’5″, 212 pounds, McMillan could become an immediate threat in the red zone, which would be critical following a year in which the Cowboys finished 31st in red-zone scoring percentage.”

Granted, this is purely subjective, but McMillan does fit, and Golden does too, and in truth, either receiver would be a good addition for Dak.

McMillan looms as the most well-rounded receiver, but Golden has the express pace to rival KaVontae Turpin, which could tilt the scales his way.

With a clear need at receiver, there likely isn’t a true “ideal” pick, with each receiver offering something different to the offense. McMillan was the early favorite (and might still be), but momentum is gathering for Golden to come to The Star.

Will it matter who comes to Dallas? Likely not, as long as one of them does.
