The Green Bay Packers entered the 2025 NFL offseason with the expectation that they would move on from longtime star cornerback Jaire Alexander. Early on in the offseason, it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that they would either trade or release him.
Brian Gutekunst has not moved him yet. There is no concrete direction about what the Packers will end up doing with him.
A new report has come out that has suggested Green Bay might not be sold on parting ways with Alexander after all. It’s a glimmer of hope for the fans who want to see Alexander given one more chance to stay healthy and make the kind of impact that he’s still capable of making.
According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, should the Packers not receive the kind of offer they’re looking for, they might just keep him for another season.
There is one concern about keeping him, which is the fact that his name being in trade and cut rumors all offseason long could cause some resentment from the star cornerback.
“If the Packers can’t make a deal before or soon after the draft, they could keep Alexander and let him continue as a starting corner. But potential resentment from both sides for the way the offseason has transpired might lead to tension during the season.”
Last season, Alexander was able to play in just seven games. Despite only playing seven games, he put up big numbers that showed he can still play at an elite level.
He racked up 16 tackles, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, a defensive touchdowns, and seven defended passes in just seven games. Those numbers are very impressive.
All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what Green Bay chooses to do. Alexander could still be on his way out of town, but there is a slight chance that the Packers might have him in town for another year.
