The 2025 NFL Draft is now under two weeks away and the Green Bay Packers are a team to keep a close eye on. Brian Gutekunst has never shied away from being aggressive in the draft.
Gutekunst has both traded up and down in the first round. He has not hesitated to move around if he felt it would make the team better or set them up better for the future.
With that in mind, the Packers could consider being active in trade conversations once again this offseason. They have one player on their roster who could end up being a surprising trade candidate before or during the draft.
Green Bay Packers Could Make Shocking Trade Before 2025 NFL Draft
There are still quite a few teams around the NFL who could use help at the quarterback position. Green Bay happens to have an elite backup quarterback who could be a starter on a quarterback-needy team.
Malik Willis is obviously the player who is being discussed. Could the Packers consider moving him if another team offers a decent Day 3 draft pick in return?
Brian Sampson of Dairyland Express has suggested that Willis could be on the move this offseason and that Green Bay could target a quarterback late in the draft to replace him.
“If a team offers a third- or fourth-rounder during the draft, that might be too good to pass up. Green Bay could then pivot to developing Sean Clifford or targeting a Day 3 quarterback to groom. Either way, Willis’s value has never been higher—and the Packers have to consider whether to sell while the market’s hot.”
During the 2024 NFL season, the Packers saw Willis step up when Jordan Love went down with injury.
Willis played in seven games throughout the season and completed 74.1 percent of his pass attempts for 550 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also picked up 138 yards and a score on the ground.
At just 25 years old, Willis could still be a long-term starter for a team. If another team comes calling, it would not be surprising to see Green Bay consider the option of trading him.
