Jordan Love’s 2024 season with the Green Bay Packers showcased his resilience. After spraining his MCL in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles during the historic opener in Brazil and suffering a groin injury in Week 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Love overcame both setbacks to lead Green Bay to its second consecutive playoff appearance. Love’s big-time throw rate fell from 5.6% in 2023 to 3.5% in 2024, partly due to a receiving corps that ranked third in drops. His overall turnover-worthy play rate rose slightly to 2.7%, but it was just 3.4% under pressure – the second-lowest by a Packers QB in the last decade. Even while playing through knee and groin injuries, it’s inaccurate to say Love regressed.

The Packers will count on Jordan Love to lead the charge and guide them on a Super Bowl run in 2025. He has already started his offseason training, as shown in a recent post on his social media.

On Thursday, Love reposted an Instagram story featuring a workout with SMU wide receiver Key’Shawn Smith.

Over the past two seasons, he recorded 58 receptions for 919 yards and eight touchdowns for the Mustangs.

Smith did not drop a single pass on 85 targets over the last two seasons at SMU. In 2024, he posted a 127.8 passer rating when targeted against man coverage and led the team in contested catches against man. That makes him productive in two areas where Green Bay’s receivers struggled last season – catching the football and creating separation against man coverage.

Green Bay needs reinforcements at wide receiver. Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson are entering the final year of their rookie deals. Meanwhile, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks regressed in their second seasons-both ranked among the top three in drop rate among receivers with at least 40 targets. The short- and long-term outlook at the position is concerning, and the Packers need to add depth to better support Jordan Love moving forward.

Whether Smith ends up in Green Bay remains to be seen. If Jordan Love sees real potential in their on-field chemistry, he could advocate for the SMU wideout to GM Brian Gutekunst-who might consider bringing him in as a late-round pick or undrafted free agent.
