It feels like the Pittsburgh Steelers know who they want to be their starting quarterback for the 2025 season. He just isn’t on the roster yet.

Pittsburgh’s courting of star free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains in limbo but most, if not all, signs point to the four-time NFL MVP signing with the Steelers.

But given that it’s Rodgers, who can be unpredictable, there is some doubt surrounding the situation. And it’s causing a strange dynamic for the Steelers, according to a report on Thursday from CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson.

“The vibe? I would say it feels a little weird here,” Anderson wrote on X. “The running joke around here right now is ‘Who’s going to be our quarterback?’ Now, I wouldn’t say there’s any panic though; but the current QB depth says what it says.”

The Steelers have just Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on the roster at the moment and despite what they say, Pittsburgh needs an upgrade at that spot if they want to contend in an ultra competitive AFC North.

Rodgers feels like a good fit and already got on the same page with Steelers star wide receiver DK Metcalf during a throwing session at UCLA.

But uncertain times means certain measures must be taken. And it looks like the Steelers have a back-up plan in the works in case they get left at the altar by Rodgers.
