Stock, who rejoined the franchise in mid-January after spending part of the 2020 season in Boston, was selected by the Red Sox on Monday and joined their active roster. The stint in the big leagues wasn’t very long, though, as the 35-year-old was designated for assignment Tuesday.
The right-hander ultimately went unclaimed on waivers, which led to the Red Sox outrighting Stock to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday afternoon, the club announced.
While Stock heads back to the minors, he surely can take some solace in the fact that he managed to notch an achievement amid his short stay in Alex Cora’s bullpen. Stock threw two innings against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park on Monday, which marked his first MLB outing since late July of the 2021 season.
