Justin Simmons has plenty of personal accolades.
Simmons is a four-time All-Pro and a two-time Pro Bowler. In 2022, the safety finished as the league’s co-leader in interceptions.
He’s made himself a household name since entering the league as a third-round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2016, but the safety admits that something is missing.
Playing for a winner and a potential Super Bowl contender.
During his eight seasons with the Broncos, Simmons did not make the playoffs once. That was a tough pill for the safety to swallow after the team had hoisted the Lombardi Trophy the season before he was drafted. Denver went 9-7 in his first season with Denver, but the team failed to have a winning record again during his tenure with the team.
Last season, Simmons joined the Atlanta Falcons. Simmons thought the Falcons had a chance of contending. The team signed Kirk Cousins in free agency and had no shortage of weapons on offense with Bijan Robinson, Drake London, Darnell Mooney and Kyle Pitts. The defense had no shortage of big-name talent as well. Simmons joined Grady Jarrett, Matthew Judon and Jessie Bates III. Despite the talent on both sides of the ball, Atlanta finished 8-9. Good for second place in the division, but not good enough to make the playoffs.
In 2025, Simmons is hoping to make the playoffs for the first team. In an appearance on Up & Adams, Simmons was asked what is attractive to him in regards to finding his next team.
Joining a contender.
Unprompted, Simmons mentioned the Buffalo Bills among three teams that he would like to potentially join. He added that playing for any of them would be special.
“I said it in a podcast maybe a couple of weeks ago,” Simmons told Kay Adams. “Maybe a month ago. But teams like Buffalo, Philly, Cincinnati–teams like that–that have always been in the mix… It would be special.”
Buffalo’s safety room currently features Taylor Rapp, Cole Bishop, Darrick Forrest and Damar Hamlin. If the Bills don’t add another safety in the draft, the team could call Simmons.
