Once the top-ranked recruit in the 2021 class, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is generating buzz as a potential late-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
ESPN analyst Ben Solak has predicted that Ewers could land with the Dallas Cowboys, a historic franchise that feels like a natural fit for the Texas native.
Solak suggests the Cowboys might take a chance on Ewers in the sixth round, using the 211 overall pick. “Dallas will feel like home to Ewers, and he could stick on the roster as a QB3 and fight for the backup job,” Solak said.
Ewers’ journey to this point has been anything but conventional.
After spending one season at Ohio State, he transferred back to his home state to play for the Texas Longhorns.
During his time in Austin, Ewers showcased his raw talent, throwing for 3,472 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in his final season.
His live arm, quick release, and ability to generate velocity from various angles have drawn attention from scouts, but questions remain about his consistency and decision-making.
Despite his physical tools, Ewers is widely regarded as a developmental prospect.
Solak points out that while Ewers has the arm talent to succeed in the NFL, he struggles with accuracy and reading defenses.
These concerns have likely pushed him down draft boards, but his potential makes him an intriguing option for a team willing to invest in his development.
For the Cowboys, Ewers could provide depth behind Dak Prescott and compete for a backup role.
Solak notes that Dallas has already made moves to bolster its quarterback room but could still benefit from taking a flier on a player with Ewers’ upside.
If drafted, Ewers would have the opportunity to learn and grow in a familiar environment, potentially setting the stage for a successful NFL career.
