While Sosa shouldn’t have been saying ‘you, you, you,’ Rojas is still the one to blame. It was Sosa’s first game in the outfield in his career, and Rojas should be calling off Sosa in that situation.
A critical mistake was made in the outfield during the Philadelphia Phillies’ game against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night at Truist Park.
In the bottom of the second inning, a fly ball to left-center field fell in front of both fielders, eventually leading to a three-run home run. After the game, Phillies manager Rob Thomson assigned blame for the critical mistake.
John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia revealed Thomson’s breakdown of the play between Edmundo Sosa and Johan Rojas in left-center field, assigning blame for the mistake.
“It was a miscommunication, but Johan (Rojas) is a captain out there. He has to take charge. He (Edmundo Sosa) was saying ‘you, you, you,’ which he should not say. It is Rojas’s fault.”

While Sosa shouldn’t have been saying ‘you, you, you,’ Rojas is still the one to blame. It was Sosa’s first game in the outfield in his career, and Rojas should be calling off Sosa in that situation.
Rojas watched the ball fall right in front of him. It could’ve been a blooper that was laughed at, if not for what came next. A few batters later, with two outs, Zach Wheeler gave up a three-run home run. If Rojas makes the catch, Wheeler gets out of the inning without allowing a run.
The Phillies lost the game by two runs, so the mistake effectively ended the game. It also left Rojas’s status on the roster up in the air.
He had already seen significantly less play time in 2025 than in the previous two seasons. His calling card has been his defense, but with a critical error in the outfield, Rojas isn’t making the case to be a consistent starter.
Sosa and Rojas took the blame, but Thomson’s blaming Rojas is something to monitor. He didn’t mince his words, saying the mistake was Rojas’s fault.
While MLB scorekeepers ruled it a double, those who watched the game could see it was an error by one of the outfielders. With Rojas’s experience in the outfield and Sosa’s inexperience, it was Rojas’s ball to catch.
Thomson blaming Rojas isn’t a good sign for his future playtime. Already struggling to make it onto the field, Rojas’s critical error raises questions about his status on the roster.
