The Green Bay Packers struck quickly in free agency to fill what could become a significantly glaring need in the weeks ahead.
Given the uncertainty surrounding Jaire Alexander’s future, combined with the All-Pro’s lengthening injury history and the outsized importance coordinator Jeff Hafley places on dominant cornerback play, the Packers inked Nate Hobbs to a $48 million contract.
NFL Executive Praises Green Bay Packers’ Nate Hobbs Signing

At least one NFL executive believes Hobbs has significant upside yet to be realized in Hafley’s scheme in Green Bay.
“Hobbs will help them,” an NFL executive told Mike Sando, of The Athletic. “He is not going to be a prima donna like Jaire Alexander. He is going to come in and play hard, and that is going to be big for them. The mentality is good. He is also a versatile nickel guy — a tough, physical piece who the defensive coordinator can move around and use in different ways.”
Hobbs, 25, has logged three sacks and intercepted three passes in his first four NFL seasons since being chosen by the Las Vegas Raiders in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
With the Packers, Hobbs likely walks into the starting nickel cornerback role, and while Green Bay might still add a cornerback early in the draft but he will figure to play a vital role on Green Bay’s defense taking another big step forward in 2025.
