A pair of former Dallas Cowboys cornerbacks are tied together in a pair of Wednesday transactions. With the injury to Stephon Gilmore, the Minnesota Vikings have added another cornerback to their roster. On Wednesday, the team signed Kelvin Joseph – often described as a Dallas NFL Draft “bust” – to the practice squad. The move is about adding depth at the corner spot for now.
Joseph, 25, was a second-round pick of the Cowboys in 2021. He was highly touted but rarely played anything but special teams in his 26 games over two seasons for Dallas before being traded away and the. bouncing around the league with stints with Miami, Seattle, Kansas City and Indianapolis.
He was most recently with the Colts, appearing in two games back in October. In his career, Joseph has appeared in 33 games – but has made just three starts – while recording 40 tackles, four passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Gilmore, who was a starter in Dallas last year, sustained a hamstring injury that kept him out of most of the second-half of Sunday’s win against the Arizona Cardinals.
Fabian Moreau and Dwight McGlothern would likely be the fill-in guys with Joseph trying to work his way up to the roster. The Cowboys are 5-7 and “in the hunt” in the NFC playoff race. The Vikings are presently slated to be a wild card team as this Sunday they play Kirk Cousins – their former QB – and the Falcons.
