Red Sox-Brewers Blockbuster Trade Idea Would Bring Freddy Peralta to Boston

he Boston Red Sox made headlines this offseason when they traded for Garrett Crochet. They also signed Walker Buehler. However, Buehler has struggled early in the year and they are shorthanded as Brayan Bello, Lucas Giolito and Kutter Crawford are on the injured list.

If they do not get healthy fast or Buehler continues to struggle, the Red Sox could be on the hunt for some pitching at the trade deadline. The Milwaukee Brewers have won the National League Central in back-to-back seasons but have started the season 5-5 with countless injuries to the pitching staff. With a makeshift rotation, the season could start slipping away from them in a hurry.

AthlonSports’ Jon Conahan predicted that the Red Sox would go after Freddy Peralta at the trade deadline as a result.

“If Peralta is available, the Milwaukee Brewers will likely seek a decent prospect haul,” wrote Conahan. “The Red Sox are realistically one of the teams around Major League Baseball that could give them exactly what they’re looking for, making this a logical trade for both sides.”

Peralta is playing on an $8 million club option this season and has another $8 million option next year. He is severely underpaid to be an ace with an All-Star nod under his belt. The Brewers have shown in the past that they would rather trade a star pitcher before they lose them in free agency, as they did with Corbin Burnes. Peralta could be an ideal trade chip if the Brewers begin to slip in the standings.

Peralta has made two starts this season and has a 2.08 ERA. He was an All-Star in 2021, his first full season as a starter, and he has had a 3.46 ERA since then. He has gone over the 200-strikeout mark in the last two seasons as well.

Peralta made every start last season and would be a massive upgrade over Buehler.
