Packers Recieve Insurance Policy Money For Jaire Alexander’s Missed Time

As his future with the team remains uncertain, “The Green Bay Packers received insurance policy proceeds for Jaire Alexander who missed significant time in 2024,” according to Packers salary cap expert Ken Ingalls. Constant injuries to the 28-year-old have raised trade and cut questions, considering that he has missed exactly half (34) of all regular season games played since 2021.

Alexander appeared in just seven games this past season due to quad, groin, and eventually a PCL injury that ended his season. Fortunately, the Packers were well prepared for this. The team has added $1,074,702 in insurance policy money as a result. Green Bay now possesses $31,691,715 in total cap space, according to Over The Cap. This currently ranks 10th in the NFL.

This added money will contribute to a significant part of the Packers’ incoming 2025 rookie contracts. When the Louisville product is healthy and on the field, there’s no question as to what he’s capable of.

In each of the last two seasons in which he stayed completely healthy, Alexander has made an All-Pro team and been recognized as one of the top corners in the league due to his elite level of play. With Green Bay adding some secondary help in the of signing former Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs to a four-year, $48 million contract this offseason, they maintain potential to have one of the top secondaries in all of football as long as Alexander is on the field and avoids missing major time.

When asked about the status of Alexander and the organization earlier this week, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst did not have a definitive answer. “I think we’re still working through that. That’s a very very good player for us and we have some time here to figure that out, see what’s best for him and the organization,” Gutekunst said” He also added “It could be a possibility, absolutely,” when asked if Alexander may still play for Green Bay in 2025.

It is now merely a waiting game to see whether the former All-Pro cornerback stays on the roster or is released/traded to save even more money toward the cap.
