Holding the fourth overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the New England Patriots will have to hope they can select either Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter.
Either player would be an excellent addition to both sides of the football for the Patriots, but there’s a scenario where neither falls to the fourth pick.
According to a recent report from Todd McShay of The Ringer, the Tennessee Titans have canceled workouts with Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, likely meaning they plan to select Cam Ward at No. 1.
However, what McShay added after that could be a major issue for the Patriots. According to him, he’s starting to hear that Hunter will go to the Cleveland Browns with the second overall pick.
“So the @Titans have respectfully cancelled private workouts with Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, making it all but official they will take Cam Ward No. 1. And now I’m starting to hear more and more about Hunter to Cleveland at No. 2.
That would mean Abdul Carter vs. Shedeur for the Giants at No. 3,” McShay wrote.
As long as the Patriots end up with either Carter or Hunter, they should be in an acceptable position regarding the draft. If they don’t love one of them and the other is selected before their pick, moving on from No. 4 could make sense.
A ton has to happen over the next few days to weeks leading into the draft, so expect things to change. However, as time gets closer, the Patriots should have a better understanding of where things stand.
