Doesn’t get more embarrassing than this.
The Dallas Cowboys made a savvy trade on Thursday when they acquired quarterback Joe Milton and a seventh-round pick from the New England Patriots for a 2025 fifth-round compensatory pick.
Some members of the media, like LeSean McCoy, who’s more of a troll than analyst, view the deal as a warning to Dak Prescott.
Barring another season-ending injury or an epic collapse in performance, seemingly nothing can threaten Prescott’s status as Dallas’ franchise quarterback.
Don’t tell that to Cleveland radio personality Bruce Drennan, though.
If that name rings a bell, it was Drennan who unearthed last week that the Cowboys and Browns have discussed a trade centered around one Dak Prescott. Jane Slater of NFL Network immediately debunked the “rumor” but Drennan is not backing down.
It took nearly a full week, but Drennan stood on his reporting in the form of revealing the parameters of a Prescott-Browns blockbuster.
Cleveland radio host Bruce Drennan doubles down on Cowboys-Browns Dak Prescott trade possibility
“I stand by the statement I laid on you last week,” Drennan said. “This could come about. Dallas and Cleveland would make a deal. Cleveland would get Dak Prescott. Dallas would get (Greg) Newsome and the 33rd pick. … If there’s anything else involved in the deal, I don’t know about that. … It’s not the second pick in the draft. The Browns would keep that.”
Bruce has finally returned to the internet, and he is NOT backing down from the rumor he heard regarding Dak Prescott to the #Browns for #33 & Greg Newsome.

Greg Newsome and the 33rd pick for a consensus top 10 quarterback?! The Cowboys are no masterminds as far as negotiating trades, but not even they are foolish enough to agree to these terms.
Slater didn’t even bother checking in with her sources. Why would she? However, she did take the time to laugh at Drennan’s reporting, posting on Twitter (or X), “this deal include magic too?” with a laughing emoji. You laugh, but it would take literal magic for a Prescott trade to come about.
First, Prescott would need to waive his no-trade clause.
That seems highly unlikely given he’s the highest-paid QB in terms of annual average value ($60 million) and second-highest in total guarantees ($231 million). Playing for a team like the Cowboys that is such a national draw allows Prescott to make incredible sums of money via endorsements. Why would he walk away from that?
There is also the contract roadblock.
After restructuring Prescott’s contract last month, Dallas would absorb $138 million in dead money if they traded Prescott before June 1. Any Dak trade would surely have to take place before the NFL Draft to allow the Cowboys to immediately supplement the loss of their franchise QB.
Further, the Browns wouldn’t be able to take on Prescott’s contract alongside Deshaun Watson, who has cap hits of $35.97 million in 2025 and $80.716 million in 2026, respectively.
Drennan claims the No. 2 overall pick wouldn’t be involved. While Jerry Jones has gotten thoroughly fleeced in many a trade over the years, we like to think he’d demand the No. 2 pick in this scenario. Jones is reportedly enamored with Colorado two-way superstar Travis Hunter, who could go as high as the second pick.
All of that said, Dallas is not trading Prescott.
It’s quite obvious Drennan is doubling down so he receives the bulk of the credit if a trade does materialize. It’s a bizarre hill to die on, but he seemingly doesn’t care how much it tarnishes his reputation and credibility.
