The Dodgers placed Freeman on the injured list due to his ankle injury, retroactive to March 31. While there were plenty of options to replace him, L.A. chose to go with Feduccia, a catcher who has some experience playing first base. Feduccia is also left-handed, and was already on the 40-man roster.
Feduccia, 27, made his MLB debut last year, appearing in five games and going 4-for-12 with one RBI. Across five games in Triple-A Oklahoma City this year, he’s gone 5-for-14 with one home run and four RBIs.
Feduccia was drafted by the Dodgers in the 12th round of the 2018 draft. Across seven minor league seasons, he’s slashed .268/.374/.427 with 47 home runs and 260 runs batted in. He appeared in two games at first base in 2017 in the Northwoods League. In the minor leagues, all his experience has been at catcher or designated hitter.
Freeman will miss the six-game road trip against the Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals. He’s eligible to return for the first game of the team’s next homestand on April 11 against the Chicago Cubs.
