Green Bay Packers’ $84 Million Star Linked as Possible Target for Intriguing NFC Opponent

The Green Bay Packers still have a major decision to make this offseason. Brian Gutekunst will have to decide what he’s going to do with star cornerback Jaire Alexander.

When Alexander is healthy, he is one of the best cornerbacks in the entire NFL. However, over the last two years, he has played in just seven games in each season.

That has led the Packers to a point where they are expected to move on from him.

Green Bay has been holding out hope that a team might trade something of value for Alexander.

That has not happened yet and may not develop at all. Teams around the NFL know that the Packers could simply release Alexander, which would give them the opportunity to sign him without having to trade anything away.

There is still a chance that Green Bay could keep Alexander for the 2025 season, but the most likely outcome is Gutekunst opting to release him.

If that happens, there is an intriguing NFC opponent that has been linked as a possible suitor to sign Alexander.

David Latham of Last Word on Sports has suggested the Carolina Panthers as a potential destination for Alexander.

They are trying to work their way back into playoff contention and would have the money to give him a good offer.

During the 2024 NFL season, Alexander showed that he can still play at a high level.

Even though he only played in seven games, he recorded 16 total tackles to go along with a fumble recovery, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and seven defended passes.

At just 28 years old, Alexander should still have some good years ahead of him. If he can stay healthy, he should continue to be one of the NFL’s elite cornerbacks.

Seeing him walk away for nothing would be a tough pill to swallow for the Packers. Unfortunately, the reality of the situation is that fans should prepare to see that scenario become a reality.
