“I’m Sure He’s Playing”: Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur Responds To Ben Johnson’s Comments

Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur

The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears rivalry runs very deep within both franchises. The Packers beat the Bears 11 straight games before Chicago ended that losing streak in Week 18 against Green Bay during the 2024 NFL season.

The Packers finished with an 11-6 record during the 2024 season and the Bears finished with an 5-12 record during the 2024 season.

Green Bay has made the playoffs for the last couple of seasons and Chicago has missed. The Bears hired former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as head coach and Johnson took some shots at Matt LaFleur during his opening press conference.

The Packers head coach commented about what Johnson said during his opening press conference, and it was “beating Matt LaFleur twice a year.” Green Bay’s head coach did not take that personally, but he knew who Johnson was taking a shot at. LaFleur said,

“I’m sure he’s playing to the fans a little bit.”

It is not a surprise that Chicago and Green Bay fans always have beef with each other. Johnson had Green Bay’s number over the last couple of years.

Detroit swept the Packers during the 2024 regular season and the Lions also have beaten them the last three of four times. The Lions won the NFC North in back-to-back seasons because of him.

It is going to be interesting to see how much Johnson will help the Bears and how much Detroit will miss him. The 2025 NFL season is going to be one of the biggest seasons for LaFleur as the head coach of this franchise.

It will be interesting to see when Chicago and Green Bay play each other in the 2025 NFL season. The LaFleur and Johnson story line will be something to watch for also.
