BREAKING: Cowboys Eyeing Two QBs—One in Free Agency, One in 2025 NFL Draft

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys need a new quarterback. No, not a starter. Despite Dak Prescott‘s season-ending hamstring injury that required surgery in 2024, he’ll return for his 10th year as the Cowboys’ starting QB.

However, after losing Cooper Rush to the Baltimore Ravens and letting Trey Lance test free agency, the Cowboys need a new backup behind Prescott.

For now, the only two quarterbacks on the Cowboys’ QB depth chart are Prescott and Will Grier, who has never thrown an NFL touchdown but does have four interceptions across 52 pass attempts.

Needless to say, the Cowboys are identifying other options at quarterback and now we know two names they’re interested in.

With Dak Prescott coming off an injury, the Dallas Cowboys are practically guaranteed to add another quarterback or two to the roster this offseason.

The only question is who will be joining “America’s Team?”

Recently, ESPN’s Cowboys insider Todd Archer revealed one free agent target worth watching and a draft prospect who could be on Dallas’ radar during draft weekend.

“The Cowboys are in the market for a backup quarterback to Dak Prescott. Coach Brian Schottenheimer did not rule out the addition of a veteran after the Cowboys lost Cooper Rush to the Ravens. Currently, Will Grier is the only other QB on the roster. A name to watch is Drew Lock, who spent last year with the Giants. The Cowboys had an interest in Jacoby Brissett, but he signed with Arizona earlier in the free agency period. The Cowboys would like to select a quarterback in the draft and will have an in-person meeting with Texas’ Quinn Ewers next week.”

The Cowboys got a good look at Lock after he started Week 13 against them last season. In doing so, Lock completed 65.6% of his passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. The Giants ended up losing by just seven points.

Yet, the former second-round pick has 28 starts of NFL game film for front office personnel to evaluate, and the Cowboys may already like what they see.
