The Dallas Cowboys have several players that they want to offer contract extensions to, all of them Pro Bowl players. However, the most important one is two-time First Team All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons, who is currently heading into the 2025 season on his fifth year option worth $24 million.
Having already secured wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott to historic deals, the Cowboys will almost surely need another one in order to retain Parsons. And owner Jerry Jones, in particular, is confident that they will be able to do so.
Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Claimed He Has Been Negotiating with Micah Parsons

So vital to Dallas’ immediate future is agreeing to an extension with Parsons that Jones told reporters at the NFL owners meetings that he is handling the negotiations himself.
What is more, Jones claimed that he is talking to Parsons directly without going through his agent.
“I spent five, six hours with him myself and had a lot of discussions. Most of the issues we’re in agreement on and discussed it all. But we obviously don’t have an agreement relative to a new contract.
“It’s not uncommon for me to visit directly with players. And in this particular case, it’s what I’m doing.
“The agent is not a factor here or something to worry about. And I don’t know his name. My point is, I’m not trying to demean him, but this isn’t about an agent. … I’m not demeaning the agent. I’m just saying everybody can do this, and that’s talk directly to a player.
“And frankly most people that negotiate with me will tell me that that was better.”
This claim, that he is negotiating with Parsons without his agent, was one that the star pass rusher was deeply offended by, and fans certainly seemed to back him up.
Dallas Cowboys, NFL Fans Roast Jerry Jones for Insulting the Agent of Micah Parsons

That agent, David Mulugheta, is highly respected in the business. Parsons did not take too kindly to Jones insulting him by saying that he did not even know his name:
Facts!! David is the best and I will not be doing any deal without @DavidMulugheta involved! Like anyone with good sense I hired experts for a reason. There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David! There will be no backdoors in this contract… https://t.co/nxKNSIXLvt

Many fans, some from other markets, believe that this latest Jones controversy may be enough to get Parsons to leave Dallas:

Not only will Jerry Jones know @DavidMulugheta’s name but David will make damn sure that he pronounces it properly. https://t.co/aUlXPuAaU0

This should be a simple contract for the Cowboys. And they’re still trying to screw it up. Pay him or trade him, you have 2 options https://t.co/vYy17g7Dup

This is ridiculous. David Mulugheta is THE best nfl agent out there. Jerry Jones is just a bigot! https://t.co/eP0e1651px

Cowboys have had enough battles and came out paying a premium with the likes of Todd France over the years.
The last agent I’d want to irritate and negotiate negatively with is David Mulugheta. That’s not going to end well for your Excel spreadsheet https://t.co/ISVncp6PDD

Of course, only time will tell how, or if, these comments will affect negotiations. But one thing is for sure: Jones is about to have many conversations with Mulugheta.
