Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers have yet to address their pass rush so far this offseason. Many thought would be one of the main areas that they focused on in free agency, but they chose to pass on the available options.
Could that change during the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft?
During an appearance with the media at the annual league meetings, Gutekunst seemed to suggest that he isn’t worried about the team’s pass rush. He made a comment that surprised many fans, as shared by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
“We can do everything we need to do through the players we have on our roster right now.”
That’s a bold strategy. Jeff Hafley badly could have used another pass rusher during the 2024 season. In order to have an elite defense, the pass rush has to be able to get to the quarterback on a consistent basis.
All of that being said, a new prediction has come in for the Packers that has the team targeting an intriguing pass-rusher during the draft.
Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News has predicted that Green Bay will bring in a pass-rushing threat in the fourth round. He has the team landing LSU Tigers’ standout Bradyn Swinson.
During the 2024 season for LSU, Swinson put together by far the best season of his college career. He totaled 59 tackles to go along with 8.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and three defended passes.
Standing in at 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, Swinson combines great size off of the edge to go along with good athleticism and speed. He has the potential to end up being a steal if he can continue developing his game.
Bleacher Report offered an interesting comparison for Swinson. They think he’s comparable to current New Orleans Saints’ defensive end Carl Granderson, who has recorded 28.5 sacks during his six-year NFL career.
While this is just a prediction, Swinson is a name worth keeping an eye on as a potential target for the Packers.
